Robert Redford’s Sundance Cinemas will make its Los Angeles debut on Aug. 31 as it re-opens the revamped Laemmle Theater’s West Hollywood Sunset 5 as the Sundance Sunset Cinema.

Laemmle, which currently operates eight theaters in the Los Angeles area, announced late last year that it would not re-up its lease at the Sunset 5.

“I discovered my love of movies at a little single screen theater on the west side of Los Angeles,” Redford said. “Having this ‘hometown’ theater dedicated to exhibiting the work of independent filmmakers is a considerable goal achieved and having the Sundance Institute as a neighbor and collaborator on special programs will be a tremendous asset to our patrons.”

The dine-in circuit is touting the remodeled location as containing a new outdoor lobby, new furnishings, the latest in digital presentation and reserved seating with plush rockers. It’s scheduled events in the days prior to the opening in association with Healt the Bay, Outfest and the Sundance Institute.

Sundance Cinemas has locations in Houston, Madison, Wis., San Francisco, Seattle and Westchester, N.Y.
