Summit sells 3.2 million ‘Twilight’ DVDs

'Breaking Dawn -- Part 1' sales up 18 percent over last title

Summit Entertainment sold an estimated 3.2 million DVD and Blu-ray units of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1” during its first weekend of release — 18% above sales of “Eclipse,” the previous “Twilight” title.

Summit, which became a Lionsgate subsidiary a month ago, also said “Breaking Dawn” performed well via digital platforms notching approximately 50,000 Electronic Sell Through transactions, a 47% increase over “Eclipse” and approximately 80,000 VOD transactions, up 142%.

Summit has continued to hold “Twilight” midnight opening weekend launch events at retailers including Target and Walmart. It will open the fifth film, “Breaking Dawn — Part 2” on Nov. 16.
