SPWA snares territories for ‘Foxcatcher’

Includes Latin America, Europe, Scandinavia and South Africa

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has purchased select international territories to Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” from Panorama Media, including Latin America, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and South Africa.

SPWA’s exec VP of business affairs Michael Helfand and senior VP of acquisitions Joe Matukewicz negotiated the deal with Marc Butan and Kim Fox from Panorama Media.

Written by E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman, drama is based on a true story and stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave and Anthony Michael Hall.

Carell stars as John du Pont, the heir to the du Pont chemical fortune who shot and killed his longtime friend, Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz (Ruffalo), on his Pennsylvania estate in 1996. Police never established a motive for the crime.

Megan Ellison, Anthony Bregman and Miller are producing “Foxcatcher,” which is currently in production. Last week, Columbia Pictures acquired U.S. distribution rights and agreed to co-finance the film, which Sony Pictures Entertainment aims to release next fall.
