Sony in talks for ‘Rockets Red Glare’ spec

Neal Moritz producing actioner from scribe Ken Nolan

Sony is in talks to acquire the spec “Rockets’ Red Glare” from scribe Ken Nolan, with Neal Moritz producing.

Moritz will produce through his Original Film banner; Ori Mamur will oversee development for the company. Sony would not comment on price but a source said it appeared to be in the seven figures.

Story revolves around the CFO of a Mexican drug cartel who surrenders himself to a rural Texas border patrol agent, promising the delivery of $8 billion within 72 hours in exchange for immunity. The agent must keep his high-value asset alive amidst a slew of cartel assassination attempts, resulting in a national security emergency.

Sony has been busy with acquisitions this week, having outbid several studios for the spec “Epsilon,” penned by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Michael DeLuca will produce.

Project is being overseen at the studio by Hannah Minghella and Andrea Giannetti.

The CAA-repped Nolan’s credits include “Black Hawk Down” and TNT miniseries “The Company.”
