Sony Animation drives Tonka trucks feature

Happy Madison, Hasbro team on adaptation of popular toy

Sony Pictures Animation, Happy Madison Prods. and Hasbro are teaming to bring the latter company’s toy Tonka trucks to the bigscreen in a fully animated movie that will be written by Fred Wolf.

Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir will produce for Hasbro.

“Tonka” strengthens the growing bond between Hasbro and Sony Pictures, which is also developing pics based on Hasbro’s Risk and Candy Land brands, with the latter project in development at Happy Madison.

“In its 65 years, Tonka has become more than a toy or a brand — Tonka trucks are a rite of passage for kids all around the world,” said Sony Pictures Digital Prods. prexy Bob Osher. “We look forward to creating a family-friendly motion picture that brings the Tonka experience to life,” he added.

“Fred and our friends at Happy Madison and Hasbro have a truly inventive take on what it means to be ‘Tonka tough’ that will translate the multi-generational appeal of this world-renowned brand into a fun animated adventure for the whole family,” added Sony Pictures Animation prexy Michelle Raimo-Kouyate.

Tonka has been the bestselling toy truck globally since 1947.
