Showbizzers and military vets will gather at Universal Studios on Friday for a hands-on project designed to celebrate the power of community service.

The industry-backed Got Your 6 campaign has organized the Celebrating Leadership and Service event to enlist volunteers to fill 5,000 backpacks with food for needy children in the Los Angeles area. Universal Studios prexy Ron Meyer and J.J. Abrams are among those who will attend the event and host a welcome breakfast for volunteers.

In recognition of Veterans Day on Sunday, the goal is to highlight the role that vets and their families can play as community leaders beyond their military tenures.

After the backpacks are filled, teams will deliver them to more than a dozen schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
