Patricia Riggen has come on board to direct “The 33,” based on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued after being trapped for 69 days.

Mike Medavoy is producing with Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera penning the script.

The film will recount the events surrounding the mine’s collapse and the subsequent rescue efforts, both from the miners’ perspective and those of the families and rescuers above.

Edward McGurn and Bernie Williams will join Medavoy as producers. Production is set start in January. Pic will be shot in English and filmed entirely in Chile, where Medavoy lived for 10 years.

The CAA-repped Riggen most recently helmed “Girl in Progress.”
