It was a night of tears, cheers and jeers Saturday at the 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards held in downtown L.A. at the Westin Bonaventure — a location choice that drew a few remarks in its own right.
Ellen DeGeneres poked fun, quipping, “This award show proves that it’s possible to have a gay awards show where Neil Patrick Harris isn’t the host.”
Other celebs to get silly on stage included Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who accepted the comedy series award on behalf of “Modern Family.”
“That’s right bitches!” Ferguson called, after taking a photo on stage with presenters Betty White, Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves of “Hot in Cleveland.”
Honoree Chaz Bono jibed at Ferguson when it was his turn on stage, saying, “With all due respect Jesse, we were modern family long before there was ‘Modern Family.’ ”
Cher cheered on her son. “My pronouns for my child just jump all over the fucking place,” she said.
