Brian Percival has come on to direct “The Book Thief” for Fox 2000.
The British director has helmed multiple segs of “Downton Abbey.”
Fox 2000 optioned young-adult novel “The Book Thief” in 2006 and set it up with Karen Rosenfelt. The adaptation has been written by Michael Petroni. Fox 2000 hopes to be in production this summer.
Penned by Australian writer Markus Zusak, the 550-page, WWII-era novel is narrated by Death and tells the story of Liesel Meminger from the time she is taken at age 9 to live with a foster family in a German working-class neighborhood. Liesel arrives having just stolen her first book, “The Gravediggers Handbook” — marking the beginning of a love affair with books.
Percival is repped by CAA, the Gotham Group and Independent Talent in U.K.
