Davi Oliveira has been tapped VP and managing director of Brazil for Paramount Home Media Distribution. The territory is becoming a growing market for Hollywood’s homevid distribs.
In this role, Oliveira will be responsible for overseeing marketing, sales and distribution in Brazil.
He reports to Dave Davis, senior VP Asia Pacific and Latin America physical and digital transactional sales.
Oliveira joins Par from Samsung do Brasil where he served as sales director, retail and was responsible for restructuring the sales and marketing chain and driving Samsung into the leading market share position within six months.
Before that, he served as sales director, retail at Sony Ericsson Brasil, overseeing planning and management of the retail channel.
“I am delighted that Davi is joining Paramount and feel confident that his extensive management experience and strategic vision will be a tremendous asset to our organization,” said Wendy Ferren, executive VP general manager of international home media distribution. “We look forward to his contributions as we continue to strengthen and expand our global operations.”
Oliveira’s hiring comes several months after Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox paired up to go after Brazil’s growing middle and upper classes who are buying more DVDs and Blu-rays by forming Fox-Sony Pictures Home Entertainment do Brasil as a joint venture (Daily Variety, Oct. 17).
