Oscilloscope takes ‘Brothers’

Band will play with theatrical release

Oscilloscope Laboratories has picked up North American rights to “The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best,” skedding the film for a theatrical release that will be paired with live perfs from the band depicted in the film.

Feature from writer-helmer Ryan O’Nan bowed at Toronto last year and recenty played the Santa Barbara Intl. Film Fest. Storyline of the film, which screens this week as part of the European Film Market, centers on a guy (O’Nan) who heads out on a spur-of-the-moment road trip with a new bandmate portrayed by Michael Weston. Arielle Kebbel, Melissa Leo, Andrew McCarthy and Jason Ritter also appear in the movie.

O’Nan and Weston will play live as the kiddie-instrument band, the Brooklyn Brothers, in concerts that will accompany the film’s multi-city theatrical release targeted for later this year. Digital and DVD release of the pic will follow, as will a soundtrack from Rhino.

The Oscilloscope release pairs the outfit’s movie distribution activities with founder Adam Yauch’s music-biz experience as one of the members of the Beastie Boys.

Jason Michael Berman and Kwesi Collisson produce “The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best” with exec producers Ruth Mutch, Sergio Aguero, Thomas B. Fore, Sandra R. Berman and Mark G. Mathis. Distribution deal was negotiated by Oscillope’s David Fenkel with ICM and attorneys Larry Weinberg and Robert Fyvolent.
