Oscilloscope shines up ‘Apple Pushers’

Distrib picks up street vendor docu

Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to “The Apple Pushers,” Mary Mazzio’s documentary about immigrant street vendors who provide fresh produce to the poor neighborhoods of New York City.

Pic, narrated by Edward Norton, premiered at the Hamptons Film Festival last year. It follows pushcart produce vendors who are now part of an experiment to help solve two problems in the city: food deserts — areas where healthy and affordable food is unavailable — and obesity.

Oscilloscope will release “Pushers” on VOD after screenings in five major cities as part of the Whole Foods DoSomethingReel Film Festival beginning April 22. Distrib will also book future special screenings and engagements.

Mazzio wrote and directed, “Pushers,” producing along with Tom Scott and Christine Vachon. Preferred Content negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
