Oscars: 21 pics aim for animation prize

Features submitted for contention; several still need to have qualifying runs

“Brave,” “ParaNorman” and “Wreck-It Ralph” are among the 21 films officially submitted for top animated feature consideration for February’s Academy Awards.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences released the list less than a day after Thursday’s deadline for submission. By surpassing the 16-film threshold, the category will have the maximum of five Oscar nominations.

A year ago, 18 films were in consideration for animated feature nominations, with “Rango” ultimately emerging triumphant.
