Michael Nyqvist flies to ‘Seagull’ adaptation

Anton Chekhov retelling helmed by Christian Camargo

“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” thesp Michael Nyqvist is joining the starry ensemble of writer-director Christian Camargo’s modern retelling of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull.”

Camargo is making his directorial debut with the untitled pic, which will star Katie Holmes, William Hurt, Allison Janney, Cherry Jones, Russell Means, Jean Reno, Mark Rylance and Juliet Rylance, the latter of whom is producing with Barbara Romer and Ed Vassallo. Indie pic is skedded to start production next month in Connecticut.

Adaptation will be set in rural New England, where reckless desire wreaks havoc over Memorial Day weekend as a family confronts the volatile and fragile nature of love. Nyqvist is set to play Johan, the jovial estate caretaker.

The actor is best known for playing Mikael Blomkvist in the original “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy, as well as the villain opposite Tom Cruise in box office smash “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.” Swedish thesp recently wrapped Henry-Alex Rubin’s indie drama “Disconnect” and Sebastian Cordero’s sci-fi thriller “Europa,” which co-stars Camargo.

Nyqvist is repped by WME, Magnolia Entertainment and Felker Toczek Gellman Suddleson.
