MGM is in early talks with “Get Smart” director Peter Segal to helm Vin Diesel actioner “The Machine.”
Sources caution that Segal is attached to a number of projects, including Warner Bros.’ “Grudge Match” and “Bleach,” and that “Machine” would likely not be the multi-hyphenate’s next project. Segal is set to produce “Bleach” with an eye toward directing, while he is attached to direct “Grudge Match” for the studio.
“Machine” is based on an original script by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, who are also producing. Michael Ewing is also producing along with Marc Platt; Segal will executive produce through Callahan Filmworks.
Diesel stars as a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world’s first true ultimate weapon. Two decades after the government halted the project for unknown reasons, a child finds and befriends “The Machine.”
