PARIS — Gaul’s Mars Distribution has pre-bought Lynne Ramsay’s Western “Jane Got a Gun,” starring Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender.
The buzzed-about project, which was unveiled at Cannes, is the first pic repped by Scott Pictures Intl., launched earlier this year by Scott Steindorff’s Scott Pictures and Exclusive Media.
Stephane Celerier, founder and topper of Gaul’s Mars Distribution, nabbed all rights.
“I bought the film at Toronto after reading the script,” said Celerier. “What drew me to this project is the chemistry between the director Lynne Ramsay, who’s also co-producing, the subject of the film, and the casting of Natalie Portman, who’s in my opinion the biggest star in Hollywood today.”
Penned by Brian Duffield, “Jane Got a Gun” centers on a woman who asks her ex-lover for help to save her outlaw husband from a gang out to kill him.
It’s Ramsey’s first pic since “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” which competed at Cannes.
“Jane Got a Gun” is expected to start shooting early next year.
Also on Mars Distribution’s slate is Woody Allen’s untitled pic starring Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin.
