Lou Pucci in talks for ‘Evil Dead’

'Thumbsucker' star to join ensemble in remake

“Thumbsucker” star Lou Taylor Pucci is in talks to join the young ensemble of FilmDistrict and Mandate Pictures’ reboot of “The Evil Dead.”

Jane Levy (“Suburgatory”) and Shiloh Fernandez (“Red Riding Hood”) were recently cast in the pic, which is a reinvention of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic about a group of teens at a remote cabin who discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demons they can’t control. While the new plot is similar to the original, it is a new take that doesn’t include the Ash character played by Bruce Campbell.

Pucci will play Eric, an intense academic whose intellectual curiosity gets him and his friends into trouble.

Fede Alvarez will direct from a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues, with revisions by Diablo Cody. Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert will produce for Ghost House Pictures, and Sony Pictures will distribute the film..

Pucci first got Hollywood’s attention when he toplined Mike Mills’ directorial debut “Thumbsucker.” Thesp co-starred in Richard Kelly’s sophomore feature “Southland Tales” and more recently, he joined Chris Pine and Piper Perabo in the horror pic “Carriers.”

Pucci is repped by UTA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
