Cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, “Transcendence” looks to have found its leading man, as Johnny Depp is in negotiations to star in the Alcon Entertainment pic.

Warner Bros. will distribute with Pfister helming from a script penned by Jack Palgen.

Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time.

Annie Marter will produce along with Marisa Polvino and Kate Cohen through their Straight Up Films banner and Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove and David Valdes.

With production set to start early next year, “Transcendence” looks to be Depp’s next pic. The UTA-repped thesp had been weighing several projects to star in next including Wes Anderson’s “Grand Budapest Hotel,” on which he eventually passed.

He can be seen next in Disney’s “Lone Ranger,” which bows. July 3.
