Jake T. Austin to topline ‘Grantham’ indie

Kristin Hanggi directing coming-of-age pic

Jake T. Austin has landed the lead in the indie feature “Grantham and Rose” with Kristin Hanggi directing.

Producers on “Grantham” are Michael Urie, Meghan-Michele German, Evangel Fung, Ryan Spahn and Hanggi via Wonderfalls Entertainment. The pic will begin filming next month in Georgia.

Austin, who’s 17, will portray a young man struggling to find his way as an adult in New York City. A petty crime thrusts him into the company of a feisty 81-year-old African American woman, who teaches him about life and love, and together they take a road trip back to their roots.

Austin wrapped the final season of Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” last year and has been tapped to star as Huck Finn in the indie “Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn. He was last seen in Warner’s “New Year’s Eve” and has made guest appearances on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Drop Dead Diva.”

He is repped by Paradigm, Principato-Young Entertainment and CESD.
