‘Iron Sky’ lands in Berlin

'Cherry,' 'Convoy' among Panorama titles

BERLIN — Nazis from outer space will be descending on Berlin next month, with Timo Vuorensola’s crowd-funded sci-fi extravaganza “Iron Sky” screening in the Berlinale’s Panoroma sidebar.

The pic, a Finnish-German-Australian co-production about a Nazi space armada that conquers Earth in 2018, after having spent more than 70 years on a lunar base, stars Christopher Kirby, Goetz Otto and Udo Kier.

Another addition to the program is Stephen Elliott’s “Cherry,” about a troubled young woman who moves to San Francisco and gets involved in the porn biz. The pic stars Ashley Hinshaw and James Franco.

They are among 11 newly announced features set to screen in Panorama, which will unspool a total 53 films: 18 in the main program, 15 in Panorama Special and 20 in Panorama Dokumente.

Other titles include Sally El Hosaini’s drama “My Brother the Devil,” about two teenage British-Arab brothers trying to survive the mean streets of London; Alexey Mizgirev’s “The Convoy,” an apocalyptic portrait of the police and the army in today’s Russia; and Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza’s Colombian drama “Choco,” about a young woman struggling to assert herself in a rural world.

Among the documentaries screening in Panorama Dokumente are Peter Ohlendorf’s German title “Blut muss fliessen — Undercover unter Nazis” and Yang Yang’s Chinese title “Our Story — 10-year ‘Guerrilla Warfare’ of Beijing Queer Film Festival.”
