Indie family comedy “Ping Pong Summer” starts filming next week in Ocean City, Md., with a cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Lea Thompson, John Hannah and Amy Sedaris.

Robert Longstreet also stars in the 1980s-set tale about a family’s beach vacation during which a 13-year-old meets a new ally and a new enemy. Written and helmed by Michael Tully (“Septien”), pic has a cast rounded out by six Maryland teens drummed up through an open casting process headed by Baltimore casting director Pat Moran and producer Michael Gottwald (“Beasts of the Southern Wild”).

Nomadic Indepdendence produces in association with Epic Match Media and Compass Entertainment, with funding from private equity as well as support from Ocean City and the state of Maryland. Movie begins shooting Sept. 17, with filming expected to run through the last week of October.
