IFC nabs domestic rights to ‘Sightseers’

Wheatley pic stars Lowe, Oram

IFC Films has acquired all North American rights to Ben Wheatley’s dark comedy “Sightseers,” starring Alice Lowe and Steve Oram.

The deal was announced Wednesday at Cannes, prior to the film’s premiere in the Directors’ Fortnight section.

Sightseers” is a Studiocanal, Film4 and BFI presentation of a Big Talk Pictures production in association with Rook Films. Producers are Nira Park, Claire Jones and Andy Starke; exec producers are Matthew Justice, Jenny Borgars, Danny Perkins, Katherine Butler and Edgar Wright.

Lowe and Oram penned the script, with additional material by Amy Jump.

Story centers on a caravan holiday trip across the U.K. countryside, but the travelers find the ideal fading due to litterbugs, noisy teenagers, pre-booked caravan sites and meddling relatives.

Wheatley’s first feature was “Down Terrace.” IFC released Wheatley’s second feature, “Kill List.” He’s directed episodes of

BBC3’s “Ideal” and “The Wrong Door” and C4’s “Modern Toss.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco for IFC with Ben Roberts at Protagonist on behalf of the filmmakers.
