American cinephiles will be able to access new Russian titles on Hulu and Hulu Plus in November in a deal announced by Roskino, Russia’s state-run film promotion organization, and Gravitas Ventures, a digital distribution aggregator.

The films will unspool on Hulu’s International Movies section. Future titles will become available after their Russian theatrical release or international festival debut.

“We are thrilled to offer new Russian cinema among Hulu’s vibrant collection of great international films,” says Roskino CEO Catherine Mtsitouridze, who is also editor-in-chief of Variety Russia. “This will mark the first time ever that a fine selection of Russian films will be available to a wider U.S. audience. It is a huge opportunity for our independent filmmakers to be exposed in such a way to the U.S. market.”

Roskino titles covered in the Gravitas Ventures collaboration include: “The Edge,” Russia’s entry for the foreign-language film Oscar in 2011; “The Stroll,” which won a Golden Eagle Award from the Russian National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences; and “Another Sky,” which competed at Karlovy Vary in 2010. –
