‘Hangover’ threequel set for May 24, 2013

Warners also dates '300' sequel, 'Pacific Rim'

It’s official: Warner Bros. is moving forward with a “Hangover” threequel, dating the pic for Friday, May 24, the beginning of Memorial Day weekend 2013.

A third installment in the boffo R-rated comedy franchise had been talked about previously; star Bradley Cooper made mention of it several months ago. But this is the first official announcement from the studio.

Warners is aiming for the same Memorial Day opening success that “The Hangover Part 2” achieved last year. That pic, which also toplined franchise players Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha, wound up becoming the highest-grossing R-rated laffer ever with approximately $575 million worldwide.

Warners has locked deals with Cooper, Helms, Galifianakis and helmer Todd Phillips. Shooting starts in September.

In other Warners dating news, the studio has staked its “300” sequel on Aug. 2, 2013, and moved next year’s alien invasion pic “Pacific Rim” from May 10 to July 12.
