Gravitas Ventures has promoted Melanie Miller to the newly created position of vice president of acquisitions, the independent video-on-demand distributor announced.

Miller oversee a five-person acquisition team charged with finding 500 films a year to release worldwide on VOD, said Gravitas founder and CEO Nolan Gallagher.

Miller, who had been with the company as director of acquisitions for more than two years, will also spearhead acquisitions for Gravitas’ theatrical/VOD day-and date strategy in alliance with New York-based Variance Films.

“We are expanding Melanie’s role and responsibilities in recognition of the significant contribution she has already made while at Gravitas Ventures,” said Gravitas Ventures prexy Michael Murphy. “She has excellent taste and outstanding relationships with the creative community, which will serve us well as we continue to push the burgeoning VOD market forward.”

A 19-year industry veteran, Miller was actively involved with the inception of the Jackson Hole Film Institute and was a key player in the establishment of the Jackson Hole Film Festival, of which she was program director and artistic director.
