Gaumont to sell ‘Paris Countdown’

Helmer Marie's debut stars Marchal, Gamblin

Gaumont has acquired international sales rights to “Paris Countdown,” the directorial debut of up-and-coming scribe Edgar Marie.

Set over the course of one night, the high-voltage thriller stars Olivier Marchal and Jacques Gamblin as Parisian nightclub owners and former childhood friends who are forced to unite to face a revenge-seeking psychopath.

“Paris” was picked up by Gaumont’s international sales topper Cecile Gaget, a fan of genre films. It’s one of the rare third-party acquisitions on Gaumont’s lineup.

Marie’s screenwriting credits include Olivier Marchal’s “A Gang Story,” which Gaumont has sold to all major territories; and episodes of “Braquo,” Marchal’s successful crime drama skein.

Gaget said “Paris” will be stylized in the vein of “Drive.”

Jean Labadie’s Le Pacte will produce the film alongside LGM, the Paris-based company behind such upscale French thrillers as Marchal’s “36” and his “The Last Deadly Mission” plus Fred Cavaye’s “Point Blank.”

Le Pacte, the French distributor of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Pusher” and “Drive,” will distribute “Paris” in Gallic theaters, while TF1 Intl. has taken the DVD rights.

Pic is budgeted between €3 and €5 million ($4 million and $6.6 million).

Lensing is skedded for April in the French capital.
