Sofia Coppola has set up financing for “The Bling Ring” with Nala Films and reteamed with longtime distribution partners Pathe, Tohokushinsha Film Corp., Studiocanal and Tobis.
“Bling Ring,” in production in Los Angeles and inspired by real events, follows a group of teens involved in a string of celebrity burglaries who track their targets’ whereabouts online; what starts out as youthful fun spins out of control. Cast includes Emma Watson, Leslie Mann, Taissa Farmiga, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Julian and Georgia Rock.
Coppola is directing from her screenplay and producing with Roman Coppola and Youree Henley. Nala’s Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet are exec producing as well as regular Coppola collaborators Fred Roos, Michael Zakin, Paul Rassam and Francis Ford Coppola.
FilmNation will handle international sales. Allison Silver, with whom Coppola worked on “Lost in Translation,” brought the project to FilmNation.
Coppola won the original screenplay Oscar for “Lost in Translation.” Her latest film, “Somewhere,” was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2010.
“I am proud and fortunate to be able to work again with Pathe, Tohokushinsha, Studiocanal, Tobis and Glen and Allison at FilmNation on the international release of our film — and to have the support of Emilio and Darlene at Nala Films,” Coppola said in a statement.
Financing was arranged by Bart Walker of Cinetic Media, who will also handle the U.S. sale, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman. Nala was represented by Glenn Feig of Reder & Feig.
