Early B.O.: Slight edge for ‘Black’ at $16 mil

$6 mil-$7 mil Friday has CBS horror pic tracking for weekend win

While early Friday afternoon numbers indicate that “Chronicle” and “The Woman in Black” may compete for first place at the weekend Box Office, observers put “Black” slightly ahead.

Box office observers say the CBS Films horror pic will likely gross between $6 million and $7 million Friday, putting it in line to earn around $16 million for the weekend. But CBS Films estimates’ are slightly lower – around $5.5 million to $6 million for Friday.

20th Century Fox’s “Chronicle,” meanwhile, is on track to earn about $5.5 million today, angling the supernatural teen thriller toward a $14 million weekend gross.

Universal’s “Big Miracle” is looking to bow more modestly, with box office watchers estimating the pic to earn around $2 million today and $6 million for the weekend.

Meanwhile Open Road holdover “The Grey” is looking to drop about 40% in its sophomore sesh, with estimates pegged around $11.5 million for the weekend.
