ROME — The Dubai Film Festival is intensifying efforts to forge European ties, the latest of which is a showcase of Arab films in Paris, following a promotional initiative in San Sebastian.

Dubai, the Middle East fest with the strongest industry component, will promote a package of 13 works, comprising features and shorts from the Middle East and North Africa, at the inaugural edition of the IMA’GIMA fest to be held at the Arab World Institute in Paris Sept. 21-25. Selected features include “Zelal,” a docu about the world of mental illness in Egypt by Marianne Khoury and Mustapha Hasnaoui.

Parisian initiative comes closely after a collaboration between Dubai and the San Sebastian Film Festival called Cinema in Motion under which four fresh Arab features in their final production stages will unspool at the upcoming Spanish fest and one will win Euros 5,000 ($8,000) toward post-production costs.
