ROME — Scottish artist Douglas Gordon, known for helming “Zidane: A Portrait of the 21st Century” and cult cinematic installations including “24 Hour Psycho,” will head the jury of the Rome Film Festival’s CinemaXXI section dedicated to cutting-edge works and new film trends.

Rome’s new competitive section, also known as 21st Century Cinema, will open with “Centro Historico” a portmanteau pic helmed by Aki Kaurismaki, Pedro Costa, Victor Erice and Manoel de Oliveira. Pic is a project developed for the “Guimaraes 2012 European Capital of Culture” initiative launched by the Portuguese city, around which the four segments are centered.

The rebooted Rome fest, headed by Marco Mueller, will run Nov. 9-17.
