Having grossed $2 million from midnight screenings, Paramount’s low-budget exorcism pic, ”The Devil Inside,” already is on the fast track toward profitability.
That’s because Par spent half of what ”Devil” earned in midnights to acquire the film, not including marketing costs.
The pic’s strong midnight start, from approximately 1,400 locations, has Par revising its original weekend estimates of $8 million to a Stateside bow somewhere in the mid-teens — a projection more in line with what other bizzers have pegged for the pic.
But regardless of where the film ends up this weekend, ”Devil” — the second pic to go through Par’s genre label Insurge — will have a very viable boost toward recouping Par’s investment.
It’s uncertain as to how much “Devil” will cume domestically, as horror pics typically are front loaded. Pic expands today to around 2,300 locations.
