Sales agent Cassian Elwes will handle North American rights to director Sam Kadi’s debut political drama “The Citizen” and will screen the film for distributors at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival.

The film, from 3K Pictures, was produced by Kadi, Chris Wyatt and Alan Noel Vega, with Ameer Kabour exec producing.

“The Citizen” centers on an Arab immigrant (played by Khaled Nabawy) who wins the American green card lottery and arrives in New York City on Sept. 10, 2001. Cast includes Agnes Bruckner, William Atherton and Cary Elwes.

Script was co-written by Arab American playwright Samir Younis, who was living and working in New York on 9/11.

Kadi was born and raised in Syria and moved to the U.S. in 2000 to pursue a career in the arts.
