Brenton Thwaites to star in ‘Oculus’

Australian actor gets lead in Intrepid Pictures' scarer

Australian actor Brenton Thwaites has signed on for the lead role in Intrepid Pictures’ horror vehicle “Oculus.”

Rory Cochrane has also joined the cast of the pic, whic has started shooting near Mobile, Ala. “Oculus” is directed by Mike Flanagan from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Howard.

Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans are producing, and Intrepid Pictures is financing in association with MICA Entertainment. Anil Kurian will exec produce for Intrepid along with Scott Lumpkin .

FilmDistrict is handling U.S. distribution and international sales are being handled by Focus Features International.

Thwaites stars opposite Karen Gillan and Katee Sackhoff. Annalise Basso and Garrett Ryan are also in the cast as the younger versions of the lead characters along with James Lafferty and Miguel Sandoval.

“Oculus” tells the story of two young children who became orphans ten years ago after a horrifying family incident. Although authorities charged the boy with the murder, his sister believes that the true culprit was a powerful antique mirror.

Flanagan was writer-director of micro-budget horror pic “Absentia.”
