‘Breaking Bad’ dominates WGA TV noms

'Modern Family' leads in comedy nods

“Breaking Bad” received a drama series nomination and four of the six noms for individual hourlong episodes in the Writers Guild Awards.

In the comedy arena, “Modern Family” earned three episode nominations in addition to its series nom for laffers for the WGAs, which will take place Feb. 17.

“Boardwalk Empire,” “Game of Thrones,” Emmy winner “Homeland” and “Mad Men” also received drama series noms, while “30 Rock,” “Girls,” “Louie” and “Parks and Recreation” were tapped in comedy.

In the new series category, nominations went to “Girls,” “The Mindy Project,” “Nashville,” “The Newsroom” and “Veep.”

“Breaking Bad” and “Modern Family” are the reigning champions in their respective categories, while “Homeland” won for top new series last year.

Gennifer Hutchison, George Mastras, Sam Catlin and Thomas Schnauz all received individual noms for their “Breaking Bad” episodes, alongside Semi Chellas and Matthew Weiner for “Mad Men” and Meredith Stiehm for “Homeland.”

“Modern Family” writers Cindy Chupack, Jeffrey Richman and Elaine Ko were individually nommed in comedy, as were Amy Poehler of “Parks and Recreation,” David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik for “Episodes” and Luke Del Tredici for “30 Rock.”

Longform nominations went to “Hatfields and McCoys,” “Hemingway & Gellhorn” and the pilot of “Political Animals” for original writing, and “Coma” and “Game Change” for adapted. Three animation noms went to “The Simpsons,” along with one apiece for “Futurama” and “Family Guy.”

Seven programs were nominated in the comedy/variety category: defending champ “The Colbert Report,” “Conan,” “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Portlandia,” “Real Time With Bill Maher” and “Saturday Night Live.”
