Bender breaks off from Jack Ryan pic

TV commitments force helmer to bow out

With his TV commitments piling up, director Jack Bender has fallen out of Paramount and Skydance Pictures’ untitled Jack Ryan project.

Bender is currently the exec producer on Fox’s “Alcatraz” and is set to helm the Syfy pilot “Rewind.” Par was hoping to get this project into production sometime later this summer, and Bender’s TV workload was making it difficult for him to find the time.

Par and Skydance declined to comment.

The untitled pic, based on the character created by Tom Clancy, has been a priority at Paramount since Chris Pine came onboard to star, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing. Bender had been onboard since fall 2010.

After several rewrites, Paramount most recently brought on David Koepp to do a polish last spring with hopes of starting production after Pine wrapped “Star Trek 2.”

Pine is still set to star, but the studio must work quickly to find Bender’s replacement if they want to hit that critical start date.

The UTA-repped Bender was an exec producer on ABC’s “Lost.”
