‘Attack the Block’ star orbits ‘Yellow Sun’

John Boyega set, Dominic Cooper in talks for African history pic

Attack the Block” star John Boyega is set to join Thandie Newton and Chiwetel Ejiofor in director Biyi Bandele’s “Half of a Yellow Sun,” with Dominic Cooper also in talks for a lead role.

Boyega is also in negotiations to topline the indie sci-fi pic “Creeping Zero,” from “Isolation” helmer Billy O’Brien.

Based on the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, “Half of a Yellow Sun” recreates a seminal moment in modern African history — Biafra’s impassioned struggle to establish an independent republic in Nigeria, and the chilling violence that followed.

Pic is skedded to start production next month in Nigeria and London, while “Creeping Zero” will lens this fall.

Boyega, who just co-starred in “Junkhearts,” signed with CAA shortly after making his screen debut as teenage hero Moses in Joe Cornish’s alien invasion pic “Attack the Block.” Thesp most recently played the lead role in Spike Lee’s HBO pilot “Da Brick,” and he can currently be seen in the BBC drama “My Murder.”

In addition to CAA, Boyega is repped by manager Danielle Robinson of Alan Siegel Entertainment and Identity Agency in the U.K.
