Director Alexander Payne will receive the American Cinema Editors’ Golden Eddie filmmaker of the year award at the 62nd annual ACE Eddie Awards ceremony Feb. 18 at the Beverly Hilton.
“Alexander Payne is a consistently fresh, exciting voice in film,” the group’s board of directors said in a statement. “He is a filmmaker with unique vision and the ability to illuminate the humanity in every story he tells. We are delighted to recognize him with our most distinguished honor.”
Payne’s most recent film, “The Descendants,” won a best drama Golden Globe in January and has been nominated for five Oscars including director and editing for his longtime editor Kevin Tent. The Oscar-winning helmer, who also served as exec producer on HBO’s “Hung,” is following up “Descendants” with a father-son road trip story called “Nebraska.”
ACE comprises more than 600 accomplished editors working in film and television. The Eddie Awards recognize outstanding editing in nine categories of film, television and documentaries.
