Director Pedro Almodovar has tapped Mexican thesp Jose Maria Yazpik to star alongside Javier Camara in his upcoming romantic comedy ”The Brief Lovers” (”Los Amantes Pasajeros”).
Yazpik is best known to American auds for co-starring opposite Charlize Theron in Guillermo Arriaga’s 2008 drama ”The Burning Plain”
Agustin Almodovar, will once again produce his brother’s film, which is skedded to shoot this summer. Almodovar is rumored to have already begun rehearsals in Madrid, Spain.
Yazpik, who previously co-starred opposite Diego Luna in ”Nicotina” and ”Solo Quiero Caminar,” recently toplined Luna’s directorial debut ”Abel.” Produced by Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal and John Malkovich, ”Abel” premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and screened at Cannes before its 2011 limited release stateside.
Yazpik’s other film credits include Sebastian Cordero’s ”Cronicas” and Michael Pena-starrer ”Sueno.” Thesp received the 2006 Silver Ariel Award (the equivalent of Mexico’s Oscars) for his supporting perf in ”Las Vueltas Del Citrillo.
Yazpik is repped by APA and his manager/brother, Carlos Meza Yazpik.
