Alex Manette has joined the cast of “The Butler,” based on the life of Eugene Allen, a White House servant who worked for eight First Families.

Manette will play H.R. Haldeman, a top White House aide to President Richard Nixon. John Cusack has been cast as Nixon.

Forrest Whitaker will portray the butler. The ensemble drama also stars Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Liam Neeson, Aml Ameen, Alan Rickman, James Marsden, Jane Fonda and Robin Williams with production starting later this month in New Orleans.

Danny Strong wrote the script with Daniels, based on Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about Allen. Daniels will produce with Hilary Shor, Cassian Elwes and Pam Williams of Laura Ziskin Prods.

Manette, who appeared in Steve McQueen’s “Shame” and “We Need To Talk About Kevin,” also has a role in the upcoming “2 Days In New York” with Julie Delpy and Chris Rock. He is managed by Davien Littlefield.
