TORONTO — TWC co-chair Harvey Weinstein will emcee the closing banquet of the Toronto Film Festival’s first Asian Film Summit.
Fest execs rounded out details of the event on Monday.
In addition to previously announced guest of honor Jackie Chan and Senator Chris Dodd, chairman and CEO of the MPAA, who will lead a discussion on film policy, the Sept. 10 event will include a conversation with Hyde Park Entertainment’s Ashok Amritraj.
Financing will be the topic of a session with Seven Stars Entertainment’s Bruno Wu, IM Global’s Stuart Ford and Media Development Authority Singapore’s Kenneth Tan.
ICM’s David Unger, Echelon’s Andrew Ooi and Loeb&Loeb’s Stephen Saltzman will lead a talent panel.
Village Roadshow Asia’s Ellen Eliasoph, Bona Film Group’s Jeffrey Chan, Isabell Glachant (“11 Flowers”) and Lemore Syvan (“Man of Tai Chi”) will discuss production; Asmik Ace Entertainment’s Kayo Yoshida will lead a Japanese culture panel.
Sales will be the subject of a chat with CJ Entertainment’s Kini Kim, Moonstone Entertainment’s Etchie Stroh and Fortissimo Films’ Michael Werner.
A genre film study with Edko Films’ Bill Kong, helmer Eli Roth, Radius-TWC’s Tom Quinn and Diversion Pictures’ Stephen Fung plus an exhibition panel and a discussion of Bollywood and independent filmmaking in India round out the events.
“In a year when our opening night Gala ‘Looper’ is a U.S.-China co-production, we’re pleased to provide a platform in Toronto for industry leaders in both Asia and the West to get to know one another better,” said fest artistic director Cameron Bailey.
Additional information on guests and programming will be announced in coming weeks.
The sales and industry office is selling a limited number of passes to industry professionals registered with the fest, which runs Sept. 6 to 16.
