Nicolas Chartier’s Voltage Pictures has locked a raft of sales on the Liam Hemsworth and Dwayne Johnson starrer “Empire State.”
Pic, which is in pre-production, has already sold to Lionsgate for U.K., Canada and Latin America, Splendid for German-speaking Europe and Switzerland and Independent for Benelux.
Additional sales for the pic were concluded for Greece, India, the Middle East and Turkey (Italia), Iceland (Sam Film), Israel (Forum), Portugal (Lusomundo), Scandinavia (Scanbox), China (HGC), Eastern Europe (Mediapro), CIS (DT), Indonesia (PT Amero), Malaysia (13 Entertainment), Singapore (PT Parkit), South Korea (Sonamu), Taiwan (Studio Solutions Group), Thailand (Mongkol), South Africa (Ster Kinekor), Australia and New Zealand (Media Fuse) and airline rights to Captive.
Story, set in 1982, follows the true story of Chris Potamitis (Hemsworth), a young immigrant struggling to survive in Gotham.
His life is forever changed when he manages to steal more than $15 million from the armored car company where he works as a security guard, in one of the largest cash heists in U.S. history.
Randall Emmett and George Furla of Emmett/Furla Films are producing while Voltage is handling foreign sales.
Pic is to begin lensing May 29.
Voltage has brought a hefty slate to this Cannes market including Nick Cassavetes’ “Cali,” toplined by Kristen Stewart; Cuba Gooding Jr. starrer “Deception”; and “Sx_Tape,” from producer Steven Schneider (“Paranormal Activity 3”).
