Killer Films’ Christine Vachon, the New York-based producer of multiple U.S. indie landmarks – Todd Haynes’ “Safe,” Larry Clark’s “Kids” and Kimberly Peirce’s “Boys Don’t Cry” – will preside over the main competition jury at Spain’s San Sebastian Festival.
Further jury members are Argentina’s Ricardo Darin, star of the Academy Award-winning “The Secret of Their Eyes,” Basque screenwriter Michel Gaztambide (“No Rest For the Wicked”), “Frida” and “The Tempest” director Julie Taymor and David Cronenberg’s regular cinematographer, Poland’s Peter Suschitzky.
Traditionally stocked with thesps, directors and critics, San Sebastian’s New Directors and Horizontes Latinos juries also have larger industry heft this year.
Tehran-based docu producer-distributor Katayoon Shahabi (“Unwelcome in
Tehran”) heads New Directors, which also includes Toronto fest programmer Diana Sanchez.
For San Sebastian’s Horizontes Latinos jury, producer-sales agent Sandro Fiorin at FiGa Films, whose sales title “Bestiaire” screened in Toronto Friday, joins Spain’s Fernanda del Nido, producer of Toronto Contemporary World Player title “Dust,” and Academy Award winning composer-musician Jorge Drexler (“The Motorcycle Diaries”), the jury prexy.
will chair San Sebastian’s Film Students Meeting jury.
