TIFF Kids unveils slate, adds confab

It will showcase 35 pix plus industry events

The Toronto Film Festival’s 15th TIFF Kids event (rebranded from Sprockets) announced its feature slate and a new week-long confab for industry professionals on Wednesday.

The fest runs April 10-22 but opens the public portion on April 13 with the Canadian premier of Disneynature’s “Chimpanzee,” a week ahead of its local release.

The 35-feature slate includes international preems of Peter Oukropec’s “The Blue Tiger,” Dennis Bots’ “Cool Kids Don’t Cry” and Tony Simpson’s “Kiwi Flyer,” plus North American preems of Andres G. Schaer’s “Snowflake,” Lourens Blok’s “Stay!,” Mischa Kamp’s “Tony 10” and Mike Marzuk’s “Famous Five,” based on Enid Blyton’s kids’ book series.

Fest also presents the sneak Canadian preem of 3D-animated “The Pirates! Band of Misfits,” featuring the voice of Hugh Grant and helmed by Aardman Animation’s Peter Lord, who delivers a master class as part of TIFF Kids’ new industry program.

With Toronto an internationally recognized hub for kids content creation and broadcasting, the fest’s biz events feature top-level participants.

Program includes roundtable sessions for delegates to network with writers, animators and buyers and several topical panels. The highlight is the day-long TIFF Nexus new Media Literacies Conference on April 20, featuring a keynote from Digital Youth Network founder Dr. Nichole Pinkard, hands-on workshops, an interactive content developers’ panel and talks by experts on cutting-edge new media research.

TIFF Kids’ conference runs April 13-20. Industry info is available at tiff.net/industry.
