‘Something’ sells to over 20 markets

Assayas' tale took Venice screenplay trophy

More than 20 territories have been sold for Olivier Assayas’ “Something in the Air,” which won the best screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday.

“Something in the Air,” which is also screening this weekend at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival, is a loosely autobiographical tale about a young aspiring artist caught up in a whirlwind of politics, art and sex in the French youth scene of the early 1970s. Pic is also due to screen at the San Sebastian, Busan and New York Film Festivals.

IFC had acquired the U.S. rights and NFP had bought German rights at Cannes.

MK2 has sold also “Something” to Australia and New Zealand (Palace Films), Italy (Oficine UBU) Benelux (A-Film), Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia (MCF Megacom Films), Sweden (TriArt), Finland (Cinema Mondo), Switzerland (Agora), Brazil (Imovision), Taiwain (Filmware) and Israel (Orlando). It also siad several major territories are in current negotiations.
