Magnolia Pictures acquires ‘Brass Teapot’

Film unit nabs pic after Toronto preem

Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American distribution rights to Ramaa Mosley’s fantasy-satire “The Brass Teapot” following its debut screening at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Teapot” is produced by Darren Goldberg of Atlantic Pictures, Kirk Roos of Northern Lights and James Graves. Pic had its world premiere Saturday in the TIFF Discovery section.

Starring Juno Temple and Michael Angarano, “Brass Teapot” is Mosley’s feature debut following a career in commercials and music videos.

She also developed the story, which was written by Tim Macy. Temple and Angarano play broke newlyweds who stumble upon a magical teapot that rewards physical pain with wads of cold hard cash, offering a rather twisted way out of their financial burdens.

Magnolia’s Peter Van Steemburg negotiated the deal while The Gersh Agency executed the sale on behalf of the filmmakers.
