Jason Statham will topline a remake of 1986 Burt Reynolds-starrer “Heat,” which will be helmed by Brian de Palma. Nick Meyer’s Sierra/Affinity is selling to foreign buyers at EFM this week.
Pic, which is penned by William Goldman who also wrote the screenplay for the original, is a modern take of his eponymous tome.
Story follows a recovering gambling addict who makes his living providing protection in the rough edges of the gambling world, refusing to resort to gunplay and using only hand and edged weapon combat.
When a friend is brutally beaten by a mobster, he endeavours to help the victim seek out revenge.
Steven Chasman will produce the project alongside Statham.
This isn’t the first time Sierra/Affinity has partnered with Statham and Chasman: Last year the sales outfit sold Statham starrer”Parker,” which locked up a raft of sales at Cannes.
Statham and Goldman are repped by CAA. DePalma is repped by ICM.
