IFC Midnight has acquired North American rights to Im Sang-soo’s romancer “The Taste of Money” on the heels of its world premiere in competition at Cannes.

Sang-soo (“The Housemaid”) directed from his own screenplay. The film stars Kim Kang-Woo, Baek Yoon-Sik, Youn Yuh-Jung and Kim Hyo-Jin. Lee Nam-Hee and Seo Jung-Hun produced and Son Kwang-Ik and Kim Won-Kuk exec produced.

Story takes place within Korea’s most privileged family in which the male secretary of a middle-aged heiress and is challenged with his conflicting desires for money and love.

IFC also released “The Housemaid” in North America. It also acquired Ken Loach’s Cannes competition entry “The Angel’s Share” and Ben Wheatley’s Directors Fortnight entry “Sightseers” earlier this week.

The deal for “A Taste of Money” was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Erica Nam of Daisy & Cinergy Entertainment on behalf of the filmmakers.
