David Henrie (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) will star in the indie feature film “1000 to 1: The Cory Weissman Story.”

He will portray the real-life role of  Weissman, a gifted athlete who starred for his high school’s basketball team before being felled by a stroke. His new dream is to simply appear in one more game and hold the ball in his hands one more time, even if it’s just for a few seconds.

Bob Burris and Bruce Gordon will produce the film, and Michael Levin will direct. “The Cory Weissman Story” is scheduled to begin production in Pennsylvania in October.

Henrie will be seen next in World War II drama “Little Boy,” alongside Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson and Kevin James. He recently wrapped production on the Adam Sandler sequel “Grown Ups 2.”

Henrie is repped by ICM Partners and Untitled Entertainment.
