Hannah Fidell’s ‘Teacher’ draws award

Wins U.S. in Progress Prize at Champs-Elysees fest

Helmer Hannah Fidell’s “A Teacher” nabbed the Champs-Elysees Film Festival’s U.S. in Progress Prize on Saturday night in Paris.

The film, produced by Kim Sherman and unspooling in rough cut, wins an extensive package of post-production and promotion services. Cine Plus is offering a TV acquisition to the French distributor of the film, while Sherman will receive a Producers Network 2013 invitation. Finally, “Teacher” will play in the upcoming American Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland.

U.S. in Progress is a joint initiative supporting Stateside indies, backed by the American Film Festival in Wroclaw, the first Champs-Elysees fest and Black Rabbit Film. The aim of the program is to present U.S. indie films in post-production to Euro buyers.

Some 50 Euro sales agents, distributors, producers and fest programmers attended the event including Hanway, Artificial Eye, Bankside and the Works from the U.K.; Wild Bunch, Le Pacte, Wide Management, Les Films de la Butte, Sacrebleu Prods. and Rezo from France; Arthaus (Norway), A Contracorriente (Spain), Trust Nordisk (Scandinavia), Imagine (Benelux) and East West (Austria); plus reps from the San Sebastian and Venice film fests.
