‘Grassroots’ to close Seattle fest

Stephen Gyllenhaal's film one of 24 world premieres

The Seattle Film Festival’s lineup of official selections, galas and specials presentations will include 24 world premiere features. Slate was announced on Friday for the fest, which will run May 17-June 10.

A total of 273 features and 187 shorts will screen, repping a total of 75 countries.

The fest has named 10 gala selections, including a closing-night world premiere of Stephen Gyllenhaal’s “Grassroots,” starring Jason Biggs and Cobie Smulders.

The centerpiece gala will feature the North American premiere of Daniel Cohen’s “The Chef.” As previously announced, Lynn Shelton’s “Your Sister’s Sister” will be showcased at the opening-night festivities.

The fest will also hold several special presentations including Disney’s “Brave” and “People Like Us,” starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Among the films receiving world premieres are Matthew Mishory’s “Joshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean,” Stephanie Riggs’ “The Standbys” and Russell Brown’s “White Camellias,” starring Cybill Shepherd and David Burtka.

Fest will also boast several U.S. premieres, including Fernando Meirelles’ “360,” featuring Rachel Weisz, Jude Law and Anthony Hopkins.

In addition to SIFF Cinema Uptown, the SIFF Film Center and other Seattle venues, the fest will feature screenings in Renton, Everett and Kirkland, Wash.
